START & END POINT:
Mount Douglas Farm Campsite, St Ives
TR26 3HE
DISTANCE:
Approx. 50 miles

CHALLENGE LEVEL:
You’ll enjoy yourself if you have a good level of cycle fitness, and some experience of off-road riding.
We want to make this accessible for anyone who wants to join, so we’ll have a support vehicle in case you get into any difficulties. But please consider coming with a friend who is a similar cycling level to you, so you know you can enjoy the ride at your own pace. We’ll provide the route, please make sure you have a proper navigation device to follow it.
OVERVIEW
We know cyclists love their coffee, so we’ve teamed up with Yallah for a deliciously caffeine-fuelled bikepacking adventure in picturesque Cornwall.
On Friday evening, we'll gather at Mount Douglas campsite for an evening of live folk music and craft beers by the campfire - a chance to meet and mingle ahead of our shared adventure.
On Saturday morning, we'll make our way into St Ives to visit Yallah's cafe, where we'll be treated to delicious coffees and breakfast before hitting the trails.
Our first stop on the cycle tour will be Sennen Cove where there'll be time to take a dip and enjoy a famous Cornish pasty for lunch at Sennen Surf Lodge (& of course, more coffee!)...
From there, our trip takes us to Treen Farm Campsite, where we'll set up camp and wander over to neighbouring Farm + Fort cafe, for an evening of artisan pizza and bespoke cocktails.
On Sunday, we’ll have a gentle start, with more coffee and breakfast at the same cafe, before making our way back to St Ives via Jubilee Pool for another dunk and a spot of lunch. We'll end up back where we started to make the return journey home on Sunday afternoon.
We want this to remain accessible for people who haven’t bikepacked before, but please get in touch with us if this is you. We can advise you on what to pack and what to expect from the route. Consider having a look at this bikepacking 101 article or get in touch with us at immy.d@templecycles.com.

ACCOMMODATION
We will be staying at two very well regarded Cornish campsites: Mount Douglas Farm and Treen Farm Campsite. We will have pre-reserved pitches for all attendees so all you have to do is show up and set up.
🏕️ Mount Douglas Farm Campsite has hot showers, toilets and drinking water, as well as washing up sinks and fridges for food and drink. There are washing machines, tumble dryers and plug sockets to charge your phones, battery packs and navigation devices.
🏕️ Treen Farm Campsite also has hot showers and toilets as well as an on-site shop selling hot and cold food and drinks and groceries. There are washing up sinks, washing machines and tumble dryers, and a kitchen with a toaster and a microwave, with additional plug sockets and worktop space for your own cooking equipment.
Please consider bringing some extra cash for things like snacks, fire pits and firewood.
For those travelling by car or van, you can leave your vehicle at the first campsite (Mount Douglas) for the duration of the trip, and retrieve it at the end to make your return journey home from St Ives.

CAMPING GEAR
Please pack a torch, tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag with liner and pillow, and any other little luxuries you might want. You could also opt for a tarp and bivvy bag set up. Bear in mind the route is hilly, so packing light is essential.
If you’re new to bikepacking, it’s worth looking into buying lightweight camping gear and making sure you have pannier bags or bikepacking bags to carry your camping kit in. You can lighten the load by not bringing any cooking kit, since all main meals are catered for, but please feel free to bring some if you wish.
We will be offering an exclusive discount to all of our ticket holders, entitling you to 10% off Wildbounds' bikepacking collection. We will share this in a follow up email to everyone who has purchased a ticket via eventbrite.
Please also bring clothing with comfort and all weather eventualities in mind. Waterproofs and sunglasses are strongly advised!
Food & Drink
All breakfast and lunch items on Saturday and Sunday will be catered for as part of your ticket, as well as dinner on Saturday evening (pizza plus cocktail at Farm & Fort). All coffees along the route will also be included in your ticket, courtesy of Yallah.
But the golden rule of bikepacking is: pack snacks!
Take care to pack lots of snacks to keep you going on the climbs and a substantial water bottle and electrolytes to keep hydrated. There will be pubs, cafes and shops along the way, so check the route out beforehand and be mindful of stocking up when you’re going into a more remote area. Friday’s campsite is located next to a Tesco superstore, so we would recommend picking up some extras there before heading out.
Friday evening and Sunday evening dinners are not included in your ticket. However, there are plenty of options surrounding Mount Douglas campsite including a tried and tested fish and chip shop. The Temple team will be enjoying these local fish and chips by the campfire folk gig on Friday evening, but you are free to eat whatever your heart desires for this mealtime!
You’ll be sent a form to fill out with all of your set catering food choices, and we’ll endeavour to cater to all dietary requirements.

LIVE MUSIC
On Friday evening, we'll be joined around the campfire by Bristol-based folk singer and songwriter Roland George Harrad. He will be performing from his upcoming album, as well as from his debut album, Full Spiral, which was released in April 2023.
With a cold beer in hand, it will be the perfect way to settle into the weekend, meet some like-minded folks and get ready for the adventure ahead.
CHALLENGE LEVEL

There will be a mix of on- and off-road riding, with a few serious climbs thrown in. The total route elevation is 3,350m and we’re covering around 50 miles.
We’re not about performance so if you want to get off and push, we encourage it. The event is more about building community and enjoying the coffee and the views rather than pushing yourself. You can go at your own pace, as long as you reach Farm + Fort for dinner!
In case of difficulties, we will have mechanics, first aid-trained staff and a support van available to help.
MORE ABOUT THE RIDE
Bikes & technical bits
BIKE HIRE:
There are a limited number of demo bikes available to borrow a bike on a first come, first served basis. Get in touch with Immy at Temple in plenty of time at immy.d@templecycles.com.
RECOMMENDED BIKE:
A gravel bike with minimum 38mm tyres, and a good amount of grip, or a mountain bike if that feels more comfortable. Your bike should fit you, be in safe working order and have been serviced in the last year.
TRAVELLING WITH YOUR BIKE:
If travelling by train, remember you may need to pre-book your bike space. Please check before booking your travel to avoid disappointment. Driving may be easier, and we will add you to our liftshare WhatsApp once you’ve bought your ticket.
WHAT TO BRING:
Please ensure you pack the following:
🚲 Helmet
🚲 Bike lights
🚲 2 x spare tubes and patches
🚲 Tubeless plugs/spare sealant if running tubeless tyres
🚲 Small pump
🚲 Multitool with what you need for your bike e.g. allen keys
We also recommend bringing a few spares that are specific to your bike. We can help you fit them, but it will be easier if you have them to get you back on the road.
🚲 Spare set of brake pads (specific for your bike)
🚲 Chain quick link
🚲 Spare derailleur hanger
🚲 Extra brake pads just in case
FAQ'S
Yes. In order to ensure a good mix of attendees, we've limited the amount of tickets a single person can buy to 3 in total.
Should we need to cancel the Cornwall Bikepacking Weekender, for reasons such as severe weather warnings that could pose a safety risk, all ticket holders will receive a full refund. However, refunds will not be issued for any other reasons, including personal discretion (e.g., change of mind or illness). If you have any qualms or queries, please get in touch with immy.d@templecycles.com
If you are unable to continue cycling, a support vehicle will be available to transport you to the campsite.
We will have multiple first aid trained staff taking part in the ride, and a support vehicle on hand should anybody require assistance.
We recommend bringing essential tools for basic bike maintenance, such as a puncture repair kit and a mini pump to keep your tyres inflated. If you encounter a problem that you are unable to resolve on the ride, a support vehicle with a trained mechanic will be available to assist you.
We will provide a Komoot route for the event and you, or a member of your riding group, must have a navigation device to follow the route independently (plus a power bank to ensure your device stays charged). Additionally, a WhatsApp group will be set up for all attendees, as well as the Temple and Yallah teams, to ensure we can support each other and stay updated throughout the ride.
If you need to leave early, please inform a member of the event team. We’ll do our best to assist you in making arrangements, but please note that transport costs or any other associated costs will be your responsibility.
We will have a WhatsApp group mentioned above, and staff will be available to assist you via phone or messaging or in person if needed.
We ask that you have some off-road experience and are comfortable cycling 25 miles in a day on hilly terrain. We won’t judge if you want to get off your bike and push, or take your time completing the route. We’ve designed the event so that people can go at their own pace and not miss out on any meals or stop offs.
Where possible, our staff will try to accompany riders, although due to logistics of being a small team we can’t guarantee this at all times.
See our Bikes & Camping sections for more information.
You’ll need a suitable gravel bike with minimum 38mm tyres, and a good amount of grip, or a mountain bike if that feels more comfortable. Your bike should fit you, be in safe working order and have been serviced in the last year. If you don’t have this kind of bike, we do have a limited number of bike hires available. Remember your helmet, bike lights and navigation device – these are non-negotiables, as well as a pump, inner tube, multitool, puncture repair kit and tyre levers.
Make sure to bring wet and cold weather gear for on and off the bike, as we’ll be cycling and camping in an exposed part of the country, as well as suncream because the UK is beautifully unpredictable.
As for camping, ensure you’ll be warm enough, and protected from the rain and the cold of the ground, but do carry whatever luxuries you want to bring too! Remember coffee and food will be available both mornings if you don’t want to bring any cooking kit.
We will have limited bike hires available for the weekend, and we will prioritise loaning our bikes to those who could not access the event otherwise (e.g. don't have a suitable bike they could bring already). Get in touch with immy.d@templecycles.com and we’ll see what we can do.
We want to encourage this. As long as you’ve got the fitness to cover 50 miles over the weekend and a navigation device so you can go at your own pace, we’d love to be part of your first bikepacking adventure.
This is a community event and we want to support your first foray into bikepacking, whether that’s giving advice on bags beforehand or cycling with you on the day if we can.
Not a problem, we’re keen to host solo adventurers who want to meet like-minded people. There will be lots of time for getting to know each other and chatting all things bikes on Friday night before setting out on Sunday.
No, but if you’d like to purchase one ahead of the weekend get in touch at hello@templecycles.com.
Mount Douglas campsite is just outside of St Ives. The address is Mount Douglas Farm, Lelant, Carbis Bay, Saint Ives TR26 3HE.
We will be setting up a WhatsApp group for liftsharing, and you can get trains to St Ives, Carbis Bay, Lelant, Lelant Saltings, St Erth and Hayle. Hayle is the furthest of these and it’s a 22 minute cycle away from the campsite.
Some trains from Bristol Temple Meads to St Erth are direct.
We’ve booked out Mount Douglas campsite for the weekend, so leaving your car there is included in your ticket price and there will be no-one else using the site during the event.
It all wraps up when you get back to the first campsite, and that’s taking things at your own pace. However, we think it’s safe to say you’ll be back at basecamp by 5pm if not before.
We’re working on it, but we’ll make sure there are enough locks for everyone to use and gazebos to keep bikes out of the rain.
Carrying gear on your bike is a big part of bikepacking and we encourage you to give it a go to get an authentic experience! However, if you are worried about carrying your gear on your bike, there will be limited space in our support vehicles to transport items over to the next campsite and back. Once you've purchased your ticket, please get in touch with immy.d@templecycles.com if you wish to arrange this.
